AFSOC Tests Cruise Missiles In Recent Combat Operation

Air Force Special Operations Command fired two Leidos AGM-190 Havoc Spear cruise missiles from an AC-130J during a real combat operation in Africa. AFSOC said the 400-nautical-mile-class weapons struck stationary targets accurately and met operational requirements in the test configuration, while withholding details of the wider mission. The low-cost, air-launched missile gives gunship crews a standoff option that reduces exposure to defended airspace. Leidos also plans to use the combat evaluation to support a ground-launched Havoc Spear bid for the Army’s Low-Cost Containerized Missile programme.
