The Defense Feed

Air, drones, naval and land dominated today's 63-item feed with 14, 11, 11 and 10 reports respectively, while Europe (27) and North America (23) generated nearly four in five items and nothing was tagged to Africa, Latin America or the Arctic. The most consequential institutional signal is Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's plan for Autonomous Warfare Command (AutoWarCom), a four-star combatant command for robotic and autonomous systems, arriving as CCA Increment 1 approaches flight and production milestones and Neros books 14,000 Archer one-way attack drones for more than $100 million. In Europe, naval execution diverged sharply: Naval Group cut steel on Sweden's first FDI frigate one month after the reported €4.3 billion contract, while Damen is seeking about €4.7 billion from Berlin over the canceled F126 program. Ukraine continued to set the battlefield pace with the first combat use of its indigenous FP-7 tactical ballistic missile and the first combat logistics run of an amphibious UGV, as Ukrainian gun-armed robots and combat lessons fed into the Italian Army's AEGIS 26 exercise. At the strategic level, the W93/Mk7 entered Engineering and Manufacturing Development as the first new US Navy warhead in nearly four decades, while Iran's CENTCOM-denied claim to have seized a US Navy Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish UUV in the Strait of Hormuz stands as the day's principal flashpoint. The connective thread is uncrewed mass and its counter, from JIATF-401's counter-drone IDIQs and the Navy's $197 million MK 38 MOD 4 gun buy to Safran doubling Texas turbojet output after TR40 demand quadrupled, and decision-makers should note how much of today's headline value rests on ordering ceilings, claims and frameworks rather than firm obligations.
