Air Force Announces New Plans To Take Over Defending Its Own Bases From Aerial Attack

The U.S. Air Force is taking steps to assume greater responsibility for defending its own bases against drones, cruise missiles and other aerial threats after Iranian attacks exposed shortcomings in organic point defence. The service plans to establish a dedicated point-defence career field within two years and is reviewing force structure, training and equipment needed to protect installations and aircraft. The initiative is an organizational and capability-development plan rather than a single system procurement. It will still require coordination with the Army and joint partners that provide broader air-and-missile-defence capabilities.
