Australia Declares NASAMS Air Defence Missile System Fully Operational for Army

Australia declared its National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System fully operational with the Army. The A$2.5 billion acquisition provides two batteries, each organized with three fire units, using Raytheon and Kongsberg technology integrated with Australian vehicles, sensors and command systems. NASAMS gives deployed forces a networked means of defending against aircraft, cruise missiles and some unmanned threats. Full operational capability confirms trained units and support arrangements are in place, following launcher deliveries and live-fire testing, rather than indicating a new order for Australia's 16th Regiment.
