Australian Army accomplishes three new operational milestones during Exercise Pozieres Run 2026

Exercise Pozieres, conducted in Queensland from July 30 to August 23 with about 8,000 personnel, demonstrated three new Australian Army capabilities in a field setting. Troops manufactured small drones in a deployable facility and issued them to units, inserted a HIMARS launcher by C-130 transport, and employed the AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzer during a major exercise for the first time; 300 Sovereign UAS Challenge drones also supported training. The activity validated integration and operating concepts, while planned fleets of 42 HIMARS launchers, 30 AS9 guns, and 15 AS10 resupply vehicles remain separate acquisition programs.
