Avio USA breaks ground on Virginia SRM factory

Avio USA broke ground on its first American solid rocket motor factory in Hurt, Virginia, on September 29, advancing an approximately 900,000-square-foot facility intended to expand missile and munitions production capacity. The project represents an investment exceeding $500 million on a site covering roughly 1,300 acres. HITT Contracting has begun pre-construction work, with detailed design due in mid-October and full construction awards expected from December. Avio aims to complete the factory by the end of 2028 and begin manufacturing and delivering rocket motors in 2029, with production equipment already ordered.
