B-2 Pilot Alert System: Air Force Funds Contrail Lidar Repairs to 2036
The U.S. Air Force awarded Ophir a $34.6 million firm-fixed-price contract to repair and sustain the B-2 Spirit bomber's Pilot Alert System through October 2036. The equipment uses a rearward-looking lidar sensor to warn pilots when atmospheric conditions may generate visible contrails, helping crews manage an observable signature during flight. Work under the sole-source sustainment award will maintain existing system functionality rather than introduce an entirely new aircraft defensive suite. The Air Force Sustainment Center at Tinker Air Force Base manages the contract, and the service committed the full award value in fiscal 2026 funds.
