Babcock extends Seaspan’s Royal Canadian Navy submarine support role for six years ahead of transition to a new fleet

Babcock extended Seaspan Victoria Shipyards' subcontract through 2032 for maintenance, repair and refit work on the Royal Canadian Navy's four Victoria-class submarines. The six-year agreement supports the Victoria In-Service Support Contract at Esquimalt and sustains more than 300 skilled workers plus a Canadian supplier network of about 480 companies. It follows Canada's CAD1.1 billion extension of Babcock's prime support contract and is intended to keep the current boats available while a replacement fleet of up to 12 submarines is prepared for the mid-2030s.
