Belgium Orders NASAMS Air Defense, First Medium-Range GBAD in 20 Years
Belgium ordered Kongsberg's NASAMS in a contract valued at NOK 10 billion, approximately €918 million, using the Netherlands' procurement authority to support the acquisition. The system will provide Belgium's first medium-range ground-based air-defense capability in roughly two decades and will be operated by the Belgian Air Force. Public announcements did not identify battery numbers or delivery dates, but the purchase represents a substantial rebuilding of national air defense and should improve interoperability with other NATO users of the networked, missile-based architecture. It also deepens regional supply and training relationships with Kongsberg.
