Britain scraps Type 83 and Type 32 warship concepts for hybrid Royal Navy fleet designed to replace Type 45 destroyers

Britain dropped the planned Type 83 destroyer and Type 32 frigate concepts in favor of a distributed Royal Navy force combining crewed vessels with autonomous missile, radar and underwater platforms. The future air-defense architecture includes an uncrewed Type 91 missile platform and Type 94 radar ship linked through the Maritime Fighting Web, alongside Type 92 surveillance and Type 93 extra-large underwater vehicles. At least £1.3 billion is planned over four fiscal years, with the first large autonomous vessel due by 2030. Type 45 destroyers will remain in service into the 2030s and receive interim upgrades.
