Britain to double nuclear submarine output under £6 billion industrial plan, targeting one SSN-AUKUS boat every 18 months

Britain will invest £6 billion across the current spending review to expand nuclear-submarine facilities, skills and suppliers, with the long-term objective of producing one submarine every 18 months. The work centers on Barrow-in-Furness, the Rolls-Royce reactor site at Raynesway and the wider supply chain needed to build SSN-AUKUS attack submarines alongside Dreadnought ballistic-missile boats. The first British SSN-AUKUS is scheduled to begin construction in 2027 and enter operational Royal Navy service in the late 2030s, while a full program investment decision is expected in 2028.
