British Army Expands U.S.-made AH-64E Helicopter Combat Reach With Drone Teaming for High-Threat Missions

The British Army’s Project NYX is developing armed autonomous aircraft that can extend the reconnaissance, electronic-warfare and precision-strike reach of AH-64E Apache helicopters in high-threat environments. Four industry teams led by Anduril UK, BAE Systems, Tekever and Thales were selected for concept work under an initial research effort, while the broader program could invest about £220 million in as many as 24 systems by 2030. The aircraft remain prototypes, and current plans retain human authorization for weapon employment rather than delegating lethal decisions to autonomy.
