British Army unleashes drone swarm on the battlefield

The British Army demonstrated a drone swarm under collective control during realistic battlefield trials, moving beyond multiple aircraft flown independently by separate operators. Shared autonomy allowed the group to coordinate tasks and adapt its behaviour as a formation, reducing the command burden on soldiers. Such swarms could support reconnaissance, target detection, deception, communications relay, or coordinated effects while dispersing risk across many inexpensive platforms. The trial proves an experimental capability rather than routine fielding, and future use will require resilient communications, electronic-warfare protection, airspace management, training, and clear human-control arrangements.
