BWXT Awarded $189 Million Naval Nuclear Fuel Contract
BWX Technologies has received a $189 million contract for nuclear fuel supporting the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, with work scheduled to finish by August 2027. Its Nuclear Fuel Services subsidiary will manufacture and deliver the material from Erwin, Tennessee, where it operates a licensed Category I facility capable of processing highly enriched uranium. The award sustains a specialised fuel supply chain used by the Navy's nuclear-powered submarine and aircraft-carrier fleets. Announced on October 1, the contract identifies the production site and completion period but does not disclose the quantity of fuel or individual vessels receiving it.
