Displacing Russia, China scores aircraft sales in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is expanding military-aviation ties with China through planned acquisition activity involving six K-8W jet trainers and Chinese Y-9E medium transport aircraft. Kazspecexport discussed delivery, technical acceptance and crew familiarization with China's CATIC export organization, while flight testing has shown Y-9E airframes in Kazakh markings. The K-8Ws would replace aging Czech L-39 trainers and prepare pilots for front-line combat aircraft, while the Y-9Es broaden a military airlift fleet that has historically depended on aircraft from Soviet and Russian sources, though final contract details remain limited.
