Europe certifies AMPS missile protection on VIP business jet

BIRD Aerosystems installed its Airborne Missile Protection System on a Bombardier Global 7500 business jet and obtained European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification, announced on October 12, 2026. The AMPS suite detects and confirms infrared missile launches, tracks the incoming threat and directs an infrared countermeasure at the seeker's guidance system. BIRD handled design, installation and certification as one programme, integrating protection against shoulder-fired heat-seeking missiles into the aircraft's approved configuration. The owner and operator were not identified, but the certified installation is available to other Global 7500 customers, extending AMPS beyond its existing military transport, helicopter and VIP-aircraft applications.
