Europe's would-be water bombers in race to tackle future wildfires

European aerospace firms are competing to develop future aerial firefighting aircraft. The programs focus on aircraft able to drop water or retardant during large wildfires. Although primarily civil, the platforms involve specialised aviation capability and production planning. The competition has relevance to dual-use emergency-response aviation.
