Finland F-35A Fighters Debut in Arctic Rovaniemi, 54 More Through 2030
Finland presented its first permanently based F-35A fighters at Rovaniemi, marking the start of domestic operations for the country’s new combat-aircraft fleet. The arrival shifts training and infrastructure activity from the United States to Finland as personnel prepare to replace the F/A-18C/D Hornet. Finland is acquiring 64 F-35As, with deliveries continuing through 2030 and full operational capability planned by the end of that year. The debut is an early transition milestone; building trained crews, maintenance capacity, weapons integration, and dispersed operating procedures remains a multiyear task.
