First national GCAP site opens in Turin, with plans for 1,000 staff to support Italy–Japan–UK fighter programme
Italy opened its first national engineering site dedicated to the Global Combat Air Programme in Turin, creating a hub for the country’s contribution to the joint fighter effort with Japan and the United Kingdom. The facility is planned to grow to as many as 1,000 personnel supporting engineering, digital development and integration work for the future combat-air system. It will operate within the GCAP industrial structure led on the aircraft side by the Edgewing joint venture, while national companies retain major program responsibilities. The opening expands the program’s permanent engineering footprint rather than representing a new aircraft order or a change to the three-nation partnership.
