France fires Akeron LP missile from Tiger attack helicopter to test target lock for MkIII upgrade

France completed the fourth developmental firing of MBDA's Akeron LP missile from a Tiger attack helicopter at Cazaux on September 25. The test used the imaging seeker in lock-on-before-launch mode and evaluated safe separation, tracking and engagement functions supporting the planned Tiger MkIII upgrade. Akeron LP combines a tandem warhead, radio-frequency datalink and helicopter launch range of at least 12 kilometers, with initial missile deliveries expected from 2028 and upgraded helicopters from 2029 if the remaining qualification and integration work stays on schedule. Additional firings will support completion of the missile's qualification campaign.
