French German institute ISL tests railgun outdoors for first time to advance hypersonic defense

The Franco-German ISL research institute conducted the first outdoor free-flight test of a European electromagnetic railgun to advance hypersonic defence capabilities. The projectile achieved supersonic velocities in ambient conditions. The test validates propulsion and barrel wear models. Europe rejoins railgun development after the US Navy shelved its programme.
