Fresh photos offer clearest view yet of China’s ‘WZ-X’ spy drone

New online photographs appear to show China's unofficially designated WZ-X unmanned aircraft in flight and provide a clearer view of its flying-wing planform and serrated trailing edge. Aviation analyst Andreas Rupprecht identified the aircraft from its proportions and estimated 52-metre wingspan, comparable to a B-2 bomber, and interpreted the visible shaping as consistent with low-observable design. The platform was first noted in May 2025 satellite imagery at the People's Liberation Army Air Force test facility at Malan, Xinjiang. Analysts assess an intercontinental high-altitude, long-endurance reconnaissance and communications-relay role, but China has not confirmed the designation, mission, specifications or operational status.
