GCAP Program Faces ‘Trade-Offs’ If More Partner Nations Enter

The Global Combat Air Programme can accommodate additional partner nations, but doing so would require trade-offs agreed by the existing governments of Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, according to Edgewing chief executive Marco Zoff. Germany has emerged as a potential future participant, while Canada became a formal observer in summer 2026. No additional country has joined as a full program partner. Edgewing is prioritizing schedule protection as the aircraft moves toward a system requirements review expected by the end of 2027, after which the external configuration will be increasingly fixed. Any expansion therefore must avoid delaying detailed design or disrupting responsibilities already allocated among the three founding partners.
