General Dynamics and US Army Demonstrate Hypersonic Navigation Without GPS
General Dynamics Mission Systems and the US Army demonstrated a navigation receiver operating without GPS during hypersonic flight aboard Stratolaunch's reusable Talon-A test vehicle. The single-board, software-defined Multiple Orbit Navigation receiver combines alternative satellite navigation signals, signals of opportunity and commercial positioning, navigation and timing services. Conducted with the Army's Aviation and Missile Center, the flight demonstration advances the receiver's readiness for the MOHAWK navigation capability and shows operation on a platform designed for speeds above Mach 5. The architecture supports future capability changes through software updates, although detailed flight speeds and navigation accuracy were not disclosed.
