Germany could receive first F127 frigate with exo-atmospheric missile defense by mid-2030s

TKMS confirmed that Germany’s planned F127 air-defense frigate has grown into a destroyer-scale design able to support exo-atmospheric ballistic-missile defense. The first ship could enter service in the mid-2030s, subject to procurement approval, design completion and construction progress. Germany is planning United States-sourced Aegis combat systems, SPY-6 radars and Mk 41 vertical launchers for a fleet of up to eight vessels. The enlarged concept would replace the Sachsen class and give the German Navy a wider role in NATO’s integrated air-and-missile-defense architecture and protect deployed allied forces.
