Germany eyes $6.3b purchase of four more TKMS frigates after ditching Damen

Germany plans to purchase four additional TKMS MEKO A-200 frigates for approximately €5.6 billion, following its decision to abandon Damen's delayed F126 project. The proposed second tranche would bring the program to eight frigates with a combined value of €11.6 billion, subject to parliamentary budget committee approval expected on October 8. Of the new allocation, €5.3 billion covers construction, with the remainder reserved for support and contingencies. Construction of the additional ships is scheduled to finish by 2035, while first-tranche vessels are expected to become operational from 2029.
