GKN Aerospace Reveals How Sweden Is Rethinking the Architecture of Future Low-Detectability Combat Air Systems

Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration awarded GKN Aerospace an approximately SEK 390 million contract for future combat-air technology studies, development and demonstrations through 2028. The work supports the national KFS concept program and decisions on combat-air capability beyond 2040, rather than defining a production aircraft. GKN will study advanced thermal management, increased onboard electrical power, propulsion options and methods for reducing aircraft detectability, while validating technologies and development approaches through demonstrators. The effort continues cooperation with the Swedish Armed Forces, FOI and Saab and is intended to preserve multiple crewed and uncrewed architectural choices.
