GKN Aerospace selected for Sweden’s future combat air technology programme covering propulsion, onboard power and thermal management

Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration awarded GKN Aerospace a SEK 390 million contract for the country’s Future Combat Air System Concept programme. Running through 2028, the work will develop concepts, technologies, and demonstrators to inform decisions on Sweden’s combat-air capability after 2040. GKN will concentrate on propulsion, thermal management, onboard electrical power, and technologies that reduce aircraft detectability. The programme brings together the procurement agency, Swedish Armed Forces, Defence Research Agency, Saab, and GKN under the Vägval Stridsflyg effort; it supports technology selection and risk reduction rather than ordering a new fighter.
