Greek firm gives old military jeeps a modern makeover

Greek manufacturer ELVO unveiled the first modernized Mercedes G-Class vehicles from a programme intended to extend the life of the Army’s roughly 30-year-old fleet. The refit adds a new engine and automatic transmission, electric air conditioning, redesigned suspension seats, 360-degree day-and-night cameras, LED lighting, thermal and visual camouflage, reinforced windshields, non-shattering mirrors, and an anti-drone net. ELVO says the vehicles meet relevant MIL-STD requirements and can be configured for weapons. The company previously supplied more than 10,000 Mercedes 290GD and 240 vehicles to Greece and Cyprus, but it did not announce the upgrade quantity or programme value.
