HAL to increase India’s fighter and helicopter engine output
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is increasing annual AL-31FP fighter-engine capacity from 30 to 50 units and establishing a second production line for Shakti helicopter engines. The AL-31FP expansion supports the 240-engine order for India's Su-30MKI fleet, with 63 engines delivered cumulatively by the end of the program's second year against a target of 60. The new Shakti line is planned to produce up to 100 engines annually and be fully established in 2028–29 for Dhruv and Prachand helicopters. India's Defence Ministry announced the expansions on October 6, linking them to improved engine availability and domestic production and sustainment capacity.
