Honeywell Aerospace doubles supply of key Abrams engine part, removing fleet availability bottleneck
Honeywell Aerospace doubled supply of the Abrams AGT1500 engine's compressor impeller after qualifying its internal precision-machining Center of Excellence as an additional manufacturing source. Hardware arrived months ahead of schedule, removing a component constraint that the company says had affected tank availability under the Army's Total Integrated Engine Revitalization program. Honeywell has invested nearly $100 million over three years in the engine supply chain, including supplier development, equipment, tooling, material reserves and in-house production. The increase concerns a specific engine component rather than complete engines, and additional program investment was announced without a separate value or production-rate figure.
