Honeywell Flies Its First Autonomous Aircraft in Six Weeks on Shield AI Hivemind
Honeywell Aerospace flew its first autonomous aircraft using Shield AI's Hivemind Enterprise six weeks after beginning training, then completed a coordinated two-aircraft surveillance demonstration on October 8, 2026. The initial BFD-SE8 multirotor flight followed training that began in late April, with a July demonstration showing autonomous take-off, route following, avoidance of a no-fly zone and return to base. The subsequent mission near Phoenix combined Hivemind autonomy with an AI target-detection model developed by Honeywell engineers. Announced on October 13, the demonstrations validate software integration and aircraft teaming rather than an operational deployment or production aircraft contract.
