Honeywell gets $25.6M for nuclear-tough navigation gyro

The Air Force Research Laboratory awarded Honeywell $25.6 million to continue work on a compact strategic-grade gyroscope designed to function through nuclear radiation and electromagnetic effects. The device supports inertial navigation when external signals such as GPS are unavailable or unreliable, building on a $41.6 million effort begun in 2020 that covered prototypes, radiation-hardened electronics, software, and space testing. The new award advances a specialized component program, while its intended operational platforms, production quantity, and delivery schedule remain undisclosed. Radiation tolerance and long-term stability are especially important for systems expected to remain credible during extreme strategic contingencies.
