India reserves major defence acquisitions for local industry

India’s Defence Acquisition Council granted Acceptance of Necessity for proposals worth about INR 1.1 trillion, or $11.6 billion, with roughly 98 percent reserved for domestic sourcing. Army priorities include CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, heavy mobility platforms, mine-laying systems, helicopters, tank trawls and Sarvatra bridges. Navy and Air Force items include Arudhra radars, marine gas-turbine work, ground-based jammers and secure access systems. These approvals begin the procurement process and signal demand to local industry, but they are not final contracts and may change during tendering, negotiation and budget authorization.
