India's homegrown air defense system finds new buyers

Former DRDO chairman Samir Kamat said India exported its Akash surface-to-air missile system to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, adding two Central Asian customers to the program. Armenia had previously been the only confirmed foreign buyer, selecting the Mk 1S variant and receiving deliveries from late 2024. The reported sales broaden India’s defense-export reach and provide additional validation for a domestically developed air-defense system, although order values, quantities, delivery schedules and the exact configurations supplied to the two new customers were not publicly detailed.
