Japan Marine United and BMT Launch First CAIMEN Japan Landing Craft

Japan Marine United and BMT launched Akane, the first CAIMEN Japan high-speed landing craft built for the Japan Self-Defense Force. The approximately 35-metre aluminium vessel uses BMT’s tri-bow design and is intended to carry personnel and vehicles at speeds of about 18 knots. It will serve with the JSDF Maritime Transport Group, a joint unit involving the maritime, ground and air services. The craft is designed to support movement between sea and shore, including operations around remote southwestern islands.
