Lockheed Martin, Avio Announce Solid Rocket Motor Agreement
Lockheed Martin and Avio announced a strategic cooperation agreement on October 13, 2026, for solid rocket motor production supporting Extended Range GMLRS and Precision Strike Missile. Following qualification, Avio USA will manufacture the motors at its new facility in Hurt, Virginia, using its Italian parent company's solid-propulsion expertise. The agreement gives Lockheed Martin access to part of Avio's merchant production capacity as Avio invests more than $500 million in additional US manufacturing capability. The partners intend to diversify supply and increase ammunition output, but did not disclose motor quantities, a delivery schedule or the value of the cooperation agreement.
