Lockheed Martin Awarded $90.2 Million for Trident II Life Extension Work

The United States Navy awarded Lockheed Martin a $90.2 million modification supporting continued Trident II D5 life-extension work. The funding covers engineering, development and related technical activity needed to sustain and modernize the submarine-launched ballistic-missile system rather than the purchase of a new missile fleet. Trident II remains the sea-based strategic deterrent carried by United States Ohio-class and British Vanguard-class submarines. The award forms one incremental part of a broader, multiyear effort to preserve reliability while preparing the system for service aboard future Columbia- and Dreadnought-class submarines.
