MBDA and Poland’s WITU plan low-cost supersonic interceptor for mass drone and cruise missile attacks, with firings set for 2027

MBDA and Poland’s Military Institute of Armament Technology are developing a low-cost Counter Mass Interceptor for high-volume defense against one-way attack drones, surveillance aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles. The supersonic weapon is designed to engage targets at ranges and altitudes exceeding six kilometers, reducing reliance on costlier air-defense missiles during saturation attacks. Seeker field trials were conducted in Poland in September 2026, with integration into a WITU-built prototype now planned. The partners aim to begin an initial firing campaign in 2027, but no procurement quantity or service-entry date has been announced.
