NAVANTIA Celebrates Naming of BAM-IS Submarine Rescue Vessel

Navantia named the Spanish Navy’s new underwater-intervention vessel A-21 Poseidón after its successful float-out at Puerto Real. Built to replace Neptuno and support the S-80 submarine fleet, the ship can deploy a rescue vehicle, operate remotely controlled systems to 3,000 metres and conduct diving, repair, recovery, search and hyperbaric-treatment missions. Poseidón is also certified as a mother ship for NATO and U.S. submarine-rescue systems, giving Spain a primary national platform that can support allied crews and specialized underwater operations.
