Navy Expeditionary Combat Command rebranded to reflect warfare evolution
The U.S. Navy renamed Navy Expeditionary Combat Command as Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces to reflect a broader focus on generating forces for distributed maritime operations. The command remains responsible for manning, training, equipping, certifying, organizing, and sustaining expeditionary sailors and units for operational commanders worldwide. Its portfolio includes explosive-ordnance disposal, Seabees, expeditionary logistics, maritime security, diving, and other shore-based combat-support capabilities. The change is primarily organizational and descriptive; it does not by itself create a new service branch, add personnel, or authorize a separate operational force structure.
