Navy Seeks New Affordable Interceptor In Request For White Papers

The U.S. Navy launched an accelerated effort called the Naval Affordable Interceptor Prototype and requested industry white papers for a lower-cost anti-air weapon. The service wants greater magazine depth against drones, cruise missiles and other numerous threats that can impose an unfavorable exchange ratio when engaged with premium interceptors during large raids. Rapid prototyping will explore mature technologies, launcher compatibility and scalable production, with the goal of adding an economical defensive layer rather than replacing longer-range missiles needed for the most demanding targets.
