Netherlands signs intent to buy Saab GlobalEye surveillance jet

The Netherlands signed a letter of intent with Sweden to acquire one Saab GlobalEye airborne early-warning and control aircraft, but Saab has not yet received a firm order. GlobalEye can monitor air, maritime and land activity over long distances, detect threats including drones and cruise missiles, and distribute real-time information to aircraft, ships and ground forces. Delivery of the Dutch aircraft is expected in 2031, while Dutch crews would gain access to Swedish GlobalEye aircraft for training and early operations from 2028. The aircraft is planned to join a shared pool with three Swedish GlobalEyes, reducing Dutch reliance on NATO's ageing AWACS fleet.
