New-Build F-16s For The USAF Is An Idea That Won't Go Away, For Good Reason

Lockheed Martin is promoting a new-build F-16G concept to the US Air Force as a faster way to replace aging fighters and preserve squadron capacity. The proposal would combine the mature F-16 production line with modern radar, avionics, electronic warfare, and weapon integration derived from recent export configurations. It remains an industry pitch, not an approved acquisition program, and the Air Force has announced neither requirements nor funding. New F-16s could provide lower-cost capacity while F-35 and F-15EX output is constrained, but they would lack comparable stealth in high-threat airspace.
