New GMLRS Rocket Motor Test to Boost Ammunition Output for U.S. Army HIMARS and M270 Rocket Launchers
Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems successfully tested a new rocket motor intended to support expanded production of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System ammunition. The motor stems from a manufacturing partnership announced in August 2024 and is intended to establish additional US production capacity for rockets fired by HIMARS and M270 launchers. The firing demonstrated a development step for the propulsion component, while qualification, sustained output rates and the timetable for incorporation into production rounds remain separate requirements. The announcement did not identify a new rocket variant or demonstrate that higher monthly ammunition deliveries have already begun.
