Patriot system emerges as potential component of initial Golden Dome homeland missile defense architecture, congressional report says

A congressional assessment identifies Patriot as a possible component of the initial Golden Dome homeland missile-defence architecture. The existing system could provide a near-term layer against aircraft, cruise missiles and some ballistic threats while the United States defines a broader network of sensors and interceptors. The Army currently operates 15 Patriot battalions and plans to add one annually from fiscal 2029 through 2031. Formal Golden Dome requirements have not been submitted, however, so Patriot's role remains under consideration rather than contracted, funded or scheduled for deployment within the architecture.
