Pentagon Wants AI System to Understand and Predict Space Threats

The Defense Innovation Unit requested proposals for a Space Threat Intelligence Synthesis Engine that can combine disparate information and identify emerging orbital threats. The prototype would ingest live video, satellite imagery, radar, geospatial data, sensor feeds, and classified intelligence, then apply artificial intelligence, computer vision, predictive analytics, semantic methods, and knowledge graphs. Desired functions include distinguishing closely spaced objects and detecting behaviour that current models miss, with results delivered within five seconds and an objective of two seconds. US and foreign vendors may respond by September 24, 2026; no contract or supplier has yet been selected.
