Romania gets its first South Korean K9 howitzers

Romania has received its first South Korean-built K9 self-propelled howitzers, K10 ammunition resupply vehicles, and K12 recovery vehicles under a nearly $1 billion agreement with Hanwha Aerospace. The 2024 contract covers 54 K9s, 36 K10s, ammunition, support, and about 18,000 rounds, with the first 18 howitzers and 12 resupply vehicles produced in South Korea. Subsequent production will shift largely to a new Romanian facility at Petresti, supporting Bucharest's goal of obtaining most program value from domestic manufacturing, maintenance, technical training, workforce development, and supply-chain participation.
