Romania receives additional surplus C-130 from US
Romania received an additional former US Air Force C-130H Hercules transport aircraft at the 90th Air Transport Base in Otopeni on October 14. The transfer uses the US Excess Defense Articles program, under which surplus airframes are provided without an acquisition charge while recipients cover associated refurbishment and transport expenses. The Hercules will support Romanian airlift tasks including personnel and cargo movement, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance and disaster response alongside the country's existing C-130 fleet. The handover concerns a surplus aircraft rather than a new-build transport purchase, continuing an established transfer arrangement between the United States and Romania.
