Russia's Jet-Powered Shahed Drones Are Quickly Evolving As Ukraine Scrambles To Blunt Their Damage
Russia's jet-powered Shahed derivatives are evolving rapidly, combining higher speeds and altitudes with cameras, communications links and more flexible targeting. Reported Geran-4 performance of roughly 450 to 500 kilometers per hour and ranges beyond 700 kilometers makes interception harder for the inexpensive propeller-driven drones Ukraine has used against earlier Shaheds. Ukraine is testing faster systems such as the Sting S and other purpose-built interceptors, although public kill claims remain difficult to verify, underscoring an accelerating contest between low-cost attack drones and increasingly specialized defenses. Russia is also experimenting with additional variants and propulsion types.
